We are always trying to think of natural ways to lower the rodent population which does extensive damage to the roots of our bushes each year.
This year we experimented with a couple of rows by planting tulip bulbs in the grass between the rows. We are hoping to lure the voles away from the bushes and give them another food source over the winter.
We allow our ducks and chickens to free-range when possible. They love going into the orchard to eat all the bugs that are found there!
We use two farm dogs to keep deer from entering the property and from eating our bushes.
We have built 2 large owl houses and hung them in the barn in the hopes of attracting more birds of prey to deal with the rodent problem. Unfortunately, they have not come yet!
